( Fun in Miaoli - Fu-Le Restaurant )

Because there was no class on Friday, Peter had suggested we go to Fu-Le Restaurant to have lunch. We also had an opportunity to see the Tung Blossom in full bloom on the way. The restaurant was quite crowded because of the Labor Day holiday so we had to wait for a seat. We finally found an available table on the balcony but had to share seats with other people.

The last time I was here I had the Pork Noodle, which was good, but I wanted to try the Pork Rice Noodle this time. It had rice noodles with pork chops and soup. The pork soup had a rich, tangy taste which really complimented the slight sweet taste of the pork chop and the thick, chewiness of the rice noodles. Fu-Le's also offers many dishes with a special, homemade sauce. It is very good becuase of its spicy taste.

Although the regular lunch time had already passed, many people continued to arrive for a meal while we dined that day. From this you could know the popularity of Fu-Le's.

Original:

In 1977, due to the high risk and instability of work in the remote mountain, the owner spent savings he had deposited for years on a house to start a restaurant business in the  Fu-Chi Village . He named the restaurant "Fu-Le," which means blessing and happiness in Chinese. The business continues to operate in the same location even today.

In the beginning, the ceramic industry was very popular in Kung-Kuan Township with many ceramic companies located there, so the main customers of Fu-Le's were their workers. Every meal time the restaurant was very crowded so a delivery service was offered by the owner's son.  He rode a bicycle with a specially made box to keep the food warm and fresh while he delivered it door-to-door.

In 1990, with the revelation of a New Taiwan Dollar, many of the ceramic companies either shut down or moved to China . Thus, this industry gradually declined in the Fu-Chi Village , along with many of Fu-Le's customers. His food remains great and popular with the locals, however!
